In addition to foundation and core modules required, the Department also offers another three specialized modules:
(1) The “Regional Module” emphasizing the use of Taiwan and its nearby areas as empirical subjects for teaching; an expansion of comparative study, and multi-facet vision.
(2) The “Digital Humanities and GIS Module” emphasizing the cultivation and application of digital humanities ability; a response to the Ministry of Education and the National Science Council on promoting humanities and technology.
(3) The “Cultural Heritage Module” emphasizing the actual work involved in popularizing local cultures; a response to the Council for Cultural Affairs and the UNESCO on promoting world cultural heritage.

【Specialties】
Emphasizing the integration of education of humanities, and that of science and technology, the Department expects its students to be able to:
1. Communicate skillfully with sufficient language abilities
2. Review and analyze related literature
3. Identify problems and conduct research
4. Produce works with originality and innovation
5. Employ different technology based on different technical understanding acquired
6. Cultivate a global vision and multi-cultural recognition

The following advancement is also expected as the outcome of the Department’s specialized modules:

【Regional Module】
* Basic knowledge of “Taiwan Study” and “Regional Research”
* Familiarity with research on Taiwan and its neighboring areas.
*Being observing in terms of cultures, and the ability to conduct research accordingly

【Digital Humanities and GIS Module】
* Digital information-based local culture popularization, teaching, and research.
* Employ GIS techniques to popularize digital museums and the cultural & creative industry.
* Employ GIS techniques to conduct cross-field research for both cultural and social sciences.

【Cultural Heritage Module】
* Ability to conduct basic field investigations; the use of related literature
* Related knowledge of UNESCO’s cultural heritage
* Ability to evaluate and investigate cultural landscapes; the popularization of related education
